From Philomath to Phoenix...

Posted in Unspecified

I was inspired to finally do a post. The Super Bowl has just ended and the Giants have just pulled a serious upset. Now, I can't stand the Giants and could really care less for Eli, Strahan, and the rest, but I'm extremely happy for Kevin Boss, number 89 in your program.

I remember going to my first game here at Western Oregon. It was a bit of culture shock. There were about 1,000 people in the stands and most of them were from the other school. Being from Texas, I thought this was a pretty pathetic turnout. Hell, I've participated in practices with more spectators than that. Anyway...I was able to see this tall, skinny kid grab every ball that came near him and I was impressed. Yup, that kid was Kevin Boss. Later, I was to get to know him in several of my classes. Great ballplayer...good kid.

He comes from the town of Philomath. I can't even pronounce it correctly much less find it on the map. He played here at a D-2 school and was a 5th round pick. And now...he has a Super Bowl championship ring. He even caught a key pass that led to the Giants first touchdown. I don't think I've ever been happy for any other team's win (other than the Cowboys) before.

Now, I only rooted for the Giants because of Boss and the fact that they represented the NFC and the East division. I am not one of those bandwagon jumpers who roots for a team just because they're winning. I had one of those guys over for the game. I can't stand that sort of thing and am surprised I even let him in the door.

I had a few friends over and we had some good grub and a lot of trash-talking. Patriot-come-lately had gone and gotten a jersey and cap for the occasion to show his support for his team du jour. What a loser...or poser...or both as far as I'm concerned. Don't get me wrong...root for the other team if you want but don't act like you're their biggest and greatest fan...sheesh.

Anyway...we ate, we laughed, we cussed...and then we threw dumbshit out... It was a pretty good game and was actually more entertaining than the commercials. Although, I did like the Coke commercial with all the balloons and the Sobe Thriller one. Tom Petty sounded good for someone on loan from some assisted living facility... *sigh* Come on, draft...

ATTENTION: Trackbacks Need To Be Disabled.

Posted in Unspecified

Attention Blog User: There has been a recent outbreak of spam that is sneaking past our spam filters and using the Post Trackback feature. This feature, if enabled on your posts, will allow spam to get in and post comments - those of which no one wants. Since Keith is currently offline and not available, us Community Leaders have taken it upon us to find a temporary solution until Keith can do something. Here's The Fix: You need to go here: http://www.efx2blogs.com/manager/tra...ttings.php and make sure "Trackback Default for New Entries" is set to 'Trackbacks Disabled' in the drop-down menu and also, "Autodetect Trackbacks?" is set to 'Autodetect Disabled' in the drop-down menu. This will disable trackback on all new posts you make. *** If you are apart of multiple blogs, you will need to select specific blog in which the problem is first in the blog control panel.... and then click that link for the settings to appear. *** For previous posts that have been attacked you must Edit that post and just below the Post Edit Box you should see a link "Advanced Post Options" - click that and you should see an option for "Allow Trackbacks?" and make sure it is set to 'No.' -------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your participation in this matter and helping us alleviate the problem. - The Community Leaders (leaders.efx2blogs.com) THIS POST CAN BE DELETED.

Criminal charges for cheating...

Posted in Unspecified

At least, that's how this little story (Boston Globe) is being portrayed in the news.  For those of you who haven't heard about this, several students apparently broke into their high school to steal tests.  They are now being charged with misdemeanors but could have easily been charged with felonies.

Of course, the town is divided and everyone has opinions ranging from "It's no big deal." to "They're getting what they deserve."   The disturbing part (to me anyway) is that many feel that the kids are being treated unfairly and that the school's actions (calling the police) are rather harsh.  School officials did say that, had it been a simple case of cheating, it would have been handled internally.  Alas, it was not.  According to police, this is being treated just like any other B&E.  I would even go so far as to say that the students are lucky that the charges aren't as severe as they could be.

Either these people are in denial or it's a very clever campaign to deflect attention away from the fact that these kids are being accused of breaking and entering and maybe theft.  As far as I'm concerned, while the thought of cheating provided the impetus, what they did was a crime and they should be charged accordingly.  What do y'all think?

I'm back...again...

Posted in Unspecified

Ok...so I freaked out the other day because my blog decided to take off and not tell me.  Of course, I had no clue that everything had been switched again until Birdy so kindly pointed it out to me.  He waited until today, but better late than never, I guess.

I kept the same name except that I dropped the numbers (412)...less cumbersome that way.  Still the same old me, though.

My new job is going well.  The commute sucks at times, but what can you do?  I am now the new maintenance director (wrench monkey) for that assisted living facility.  I have my own office (which I have dubbed "the dungeon") and everything.  I just got a company phone so they can have an electronic collar on me.  Same exact phone as my current one but with AT&T instead of T-Mobile.  I'm responsible for 90 units kinda like studio or one-bedroom apartments.  There are no kitchens in them, but there is an in-house dining facility.  I'm also responsible for any maintenance issues for the rest of the building and the physical plant.  Oh yeah...I'm in charge of fire safety, too.  Heh...the title...Maintenance Director...sounds grand except for the fact that I'm the only one in the department...lol.  I am able to hire an assistant if we get to full capacity.  That'll be a while since we're only about two-thirds full.

Anyway, I guess I'll start playing with this and then I'll go crying to Kel to make it look purdy...like my brother's.  Hope to see all my old friends really soon.  I've missed y'all.
